Photoshop a Neon Beer Sign

Welcome! This Photoshop text tutorial is how to create a neon glowing beer sign. Everyone loves the warm glow of these signs in the window of their favorite bar or pub. I’ll take you step by step and soon you will have your own custom beer sign.

Here are a couple of free beer fonts you can download. If you want to duplicate what I did in this tutorial you’ll need the Harlow Solid Italic font.

Budweiser Font

Heineken Font

Begin by creating a rectangle for the background. Notice that I used a shade just lighter than pure black. Create a new layer and choose your font. Make sure your text is white. I threw a shamrock on there just for fun.

Ok, with the text layer selected, click on the fx button. The most important and tricky step is the inner glow. You might have to tweak it to your liking, particularly the choke and size controls. Set up your layer styles like this:

Now you’ll need to add some lighting to the background. Select your background layer. Then select filter>render>lighting effects. Set it up like this:

Last step! To give it the look like it’s hanging in a window, select your background layer. Then select filter>distort>glass Set it up like this:

That’s it! Simple enough eh? I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
